Escholtzia caespitosa- sundrops

20 May

I planted seed of these in an area I want to keep open for a birdbath in the back. I was expecting a yellow California poppy… It this little charmer is a very nice surprise! The tiny little lemon or butter yellow flowers aren’t much bigger than a nickel, and top the ferny blue green leaves on almost invisible wiry stems. I really hope this reseeds, as I rather like the effect, and it’s on a much smaller scale that the typical Eschiltzia californica you see around. Definitely a keeper! The only thing better is if there were more bees or some kind of pollinator going for it.
